Only one will move into our next Strategy Lab round, but all five finalists in the Strategy Lab Open topped the market by a mile.
The Dow slips but finishes a wild third quarter up 3.6% and less than 1% under its July high. Some see the blue-chip index hitting 16,000 by the year-end. Techs, energy and commodity stocks dominate the quarter. Consumer spending is better than expected.

FT.com - US stocks were modestly weaker at mid-morning on Friday, and as the third quarter was set to end, investors faced benign news on inflation. Oil prices were near a record high as the dollar set fresh record lows.
FT.com - US stocks were set for a lower start on Friday, but had pared losses in early pre-market trade after inflation was revealed to be benign during August. Bond yields were lower and the dollar set a new record low against the euro and a basket of currencies.
